Byron Militello has been a Special Agent (SA) with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for over 20 years. He was native of St. Louis, Missouri prior to living in Des Moines, Iowa with his wife and four sons. He was a Police Officer in Florissant, MO from 1993 until 2003 before joining the FBI. He has worked all cyber-criminal matters for the first seven years of his career while stationed at the FBI Chicago Division. He attended the Computer Response Analysis Team (CART) training while stationed in Chicago and provided computer forensic examinations. In 2008, SA Militello was temporarily transferred to Cyprus to assist the Cypriot National Police on advancing their cyber investigating techniques. He assisted on executing over 30 search warrants and worked on one of the largest online gambling schemes while stationed in Cyprus. In 2010, SA Militello was transferred to the FBI Omaha, Des Moines Resident Agency office. Upon arrival in Des Moines, he was assigned to work all Foreign Counterintelligence (FCI) matters in the state of Iowa. During his time in Des Moines, he has worked all types of FCI matters, which spans all countries. In 2016, He was assigned as the Election Coordinator for the state of Iowa. In 2017, he started the first “Energy Security Working Group” in the FBI, which consist of all private energy working partners in the FBI Omaha’s area of responsibility. SA Militello was the case agent assigned to the major case called "Purple Maze,” which was a successful Economic Espionage/Theft of Trade Secrets cases involving the theft of bio-engineered corn seed. He will discuss the liaison between the FBI and private industry.
