The Purple Maze investigation was at the time the largest economic espionage investigation in US history, and it was predicated on corn. Chinese nationals arrived in Iowa fields seeking to steal proprietary corn seed technology with an intention of replicating the materials in China. Through FBI investigation alongside multiple federal, state, and local partners, the US Government was able to disrupt the activity and protect US business interests.
